| Artist Biography |
Retired architect, Joseph Sweeney of Brooklyn, New York has undertaken another odyssey - that of photo buff. This endeavor has resulted in his creating a unique photographic masterpiece, "The Doors of Brooklyn." "Entranceways as Art," is what a local Brooklyn newspaper used in describing Joseph's artistic production.
His architecture bearings made him a connoisseur of the plethora of majestic brownstone styles that dot many Brooklyn communities. He undertook a three-month quest of walking and photographing over 300 doors of these brownstones in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Fort Greene, Williamsburg and Bedford Stuyvesant. He says that, "Some of these doors go back to the 1860s. After 150 years they are still truly elegant. The history is in the doorway, there's a distinction to them that we don't necessarily see in the door itself."
After painstakingly narrowing the 300 photos down to 30 poster photos, Joseph created the poster collage art treasure, "The Doors of Brooklyn." The posters are very reasonably priced and can be viewed on this Web site. |
